Project Blackout is a free FPS game with several modes and maps. It has many ranks like most FPS games these days. You can buy various guns, armor, characters, etc. using in-game credits or points ($). Below are the different game types:
- Deathmatch - Red vs Blue til time runs out or # of kills is reached
- Eliminate - Eliminate the other team, with no respawn til the next round.
- Bomb - Red team tries to plant a bomb or eliminate the blue team. Once planted, Blue team has 30 seconds to defuse it. Several maps to choose from.
- Defense - Offense vs Defense. Keep the enemy from destroying your 2 tanks (located in different locations). At the time of this review, there is only 1 map for this mode.
- Destroy - Destroy the enemy’s helicopter or generator. There are currently 2 maps available.
- Challenge (play vs AI) – start off against low level AI. Every 20 kills, the difficulty goes up. Good for practice or if you’re bored.
In addition to these, when you create a room, you can limit what weapons and accessory items can be used, so if you like to camp.. err snipe, you can make it so you can only use rifles. You can also choose whether grenades or handguns can be used.
While PB may not have quite as many options as older FPS games, the gameplay seems to be smoother & less clunky, and maybe a little less chaotic. One thing I’d recommend – be sure to disable the voice-overs (not sure the exact term in the options) or you’ll hear someone yell grenade every time a grenade is thrown — and that’s about every other second.
